Wood Carving for Beginners | Saturday 9/12 1-5pm
Starting (of course) with safety, instructor Anne Briggs aka Anne Of All Trades will take you through the entire process of creating a customized spoon for your favorite cooking pan. From learning to source wood outdoors on your regular walks, through the ways to use your body to maintain your safety, foundational wood cuts, and designing in 3D, Anne’s friendly, approachable teaching style will make you wonder why you’ve never tried woodworking before!
You’ll learn how to:
Choose the right wood for your project, and spot it in the wild
Use a hatchet and woodcutting knife safely
Carve and cut wood safely and with purpose
Design a 3D object in wood
Create, finish, and keep a wooden spoon of your own
At the end of the class, you won’t only have a custom wooden spoon you can keep for yourself or give as a gift — you’ll have an entirely new method of creative expression at your disposal. We can’t wait to see what you make!
Required:
o Sloyd knife (Mora 106 or similar)
Optional:
o Hatchet/Carving axe (Robin Wood’s Sheffield axe or Kalthoff’s carving axe, Gransfors Bruk…there are many) or any small, double bevel axe that is sharp.
CANCELATION/ REFUND POLICY: All deposits are non-refundable. For classes paid in full, a refund or credit will be provided to you, so long as notice is given via email, at least two weeks prior to the class date. Although it rarely occurs, sometimes a class doesn't reach the minimum attendance bar. If attendance isn't met 1 week prior to the class date, the class will be canceled and you will be notified. You will be given the option of either a refund or credit for another class.
