Greenwood Carving Workshop | 9/26
Greenwood Carving Workshop (Intermediate/Advanced) | Saturday 9/26/26 8-5pm
Students may choose one or more spoon variations based on instructor George Kittos’ sample pieces to work on during an 7-hour learning day with a one-hour lunch break. Beginning with riving blanks from logs, George will walk through their process and at points through the day continue to teach intermediate and advanced carving techniques. Teaching will include mechanics on knife grips, cuts, postures, tool sharpening and a discussion on design considerations for the various forms that students may choose from.
The feel of this workshop will be interactive with students working mostly independently on their pieces with access to the instructor throughout the day. Some students may choose to work on one spoon for the whole day, taking their time to add detail and ornamentation. Others may want to work on 2 or more spoons during the day if they are more advanced. No matter what level you are at, you will have the opportunity to learn, develop and practice spoon carving with a master!
Required Tools for Class:
o Carving axe (Robin Wood’s Sheffield axe or Kalthoff’s carving axe, Gransfors Bruk…there are many) or any small, double bevel axe that is sharp
o Sloyd knife (Mora 106 or similar)
o Hook knife (Mora 164 or similar) Can bring a curved/bent carving gouge as alternative
Optional:
o Detail/chip carving knife
o Sharpening tools and media
CANCELATION/ REFUND POLICY: All deposits are non-refundable. For classes paid in full, a refund or credit will be provided to you, so long as notice is given via email, at least two weeks prior to the class date. Although it rarely occurs, sometimes a class doesn't reach the minimum attendance bar. If attendance isn't met 1 week prior to the class date, the class will be canceled and you will be notified. You will be given the option of either a refund or credit for another class.
